The majority of my wool I sell on Ned’s Yarns is machine washable however for wool that is not please find below some guidance on how to paw wash a woolen garment.
Remember not to have the water to hot as it will scold your paws.
Protect your paws with rubber gloves.
Fill a sink or wash basin with the hottest water your gloved paws will be able to stand ( if you have to use a stool to reach the sink, be careful it doesn’t slip). Contrary to popular belief, hot water alone will not damage your garment, abrasive scrubbing does. The tired and true method for cleaning wool garments is safe, delicate paw-washing.
Place a small amount of gentle laundry soap into the hot water. Add salt to the water if you believe that colours may run. Mix water thoroughly by swishing your paws in a circular motion. (This is the fun bit)
Push your wool garment into the hot water. Do not soak, twist or wring your garments in the hot water. Instead, agitate gently and rinse well under cool water.
Squeeze out water and lay your garment flat on a towel to dry. If needed, you can place a damp cloth over your garment and press it gently with a warm iron. This will expedite the drying process.
Never use ammonia or bleach on wool garments.
